IRP 4: Thermal functionalisation of buildings

To reach new objectives such as buildings “zero energy”, innovations in terms of insulation and transient energy storage are necessary. It requires technological breakthrough directly related to the development of new multifunctional materials.

Two types of solutions will be examined :
  • IRP 4-1. Vacuum insulating structures
  • IRP 4-2. Thermal energy storage with Phase Change Materials (PCM)
The fundamental issues raised in the above programs are mainly :
  1. thermo-mechanical behaviour of fibrous or porous structures,
  2. shape optimization of hybrid structures for strongly non linear problems such as transient thermal conduction including phase change, convective boundary conditions ...,
  3. degradation of the thermal properties of fibrous or porous or multilayer structures.
