New materials with new functionalities and improved performances will be critical drivers of innovation in technologies, benefiting sustainable development and competitiveness.

The demands of multifunctionality often create a bottleneck which cannot be overcome by using traditional materials. Associating materials and tailoring their geometries provides an innovative strategy to meet these new engineering challenges. The design, processing, and characterization of "Multifunctional Architectured Materials" is the main goal of the Labex "Grenoble-CEMAM". This new paradigm calls for an interdisciplinary approach and a close partnership between academia and industry.

CEMAM funds five Interdisciplinary Research Projects (IRPs), with each one investigating fundamental scientific questions and new pathways to significant technological leaps that can only be achieved though a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach. These IRPs cover various fields, all identified as European priorities (SNRI) related to energy, nanotechnologies, ecotechnologies, health ...

  • IRP 1: Eco-efficiency, second lifes, recycling
  • IRP 2: Thin Films engineering
  • IRP 3: Weight saving engineering
  • IRP 4: Biomaterials design for biomedical engineering
  • IRP 5: Electrochemical engineering for sustainable energy
