Thermal functionalization of buildings

Heating buildings is responsible for nearly half of the energy consumption and roughly one quarter of the CO2 emissions of Europe. Significant progress has been made in recent years, but contemporary energy and climate issues continue to translate into ever more stringent thermal standards, with new objectives having emerged such as "zero energy" buildings.

Innovations in insulation and transient energy storage are particularly important, and require technological breakthroughs directly related to the development of new materials able to fulfill multifunctional requirements. CEMAM research programs address precisely these two areas: thermal insulation (including super insulation) and thermal storage.
